Influence

The power of influence….it’s everywhere. In our workplaces…in our schools…in our families…and even in our churches.

But, what if the influence around you is starting to become a burden? Where you don’t want to be around these people anymore because they make everything around you, about themselves. They have a personal agenda…everything they do is about making you feel worthless. You discover that no matter what’s going on in your life, they really could care less. They never even ask you about your weekend….your family….they never even say thank you for helping them…because they don’t care!

Let’s identify what wicked influence looks like…

The Bible explains an eye-opening verse:

Don’t walk with the wicked. In Proverbs 4:19 in NLT version: “But the way of the wicked is like total darkness. They have no idea what they are stumbling over.”

The Bible’s definition of wickedness is ultimately described in the Old Testament as someone who is guilty of committing a crime and is considered a criminal worthy of punishment in God’s eyes because sin (crime) is against God for, in the end, all sin is against God even though it hurts the person committing it and others around him or her.

  • Wickedness is guilt (a feeling of having done wrong or failed in an obligation).
  • Wickedness is manipulation (to manage or influence skillfully, especially in an unfair manner).
  • Wickedness is coercion (the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats).
  • Wickedness is pride (a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements).
  • Wickedness is narcissism (extreme selfishness, with a grandiose view of one’s own talents and a craving for admiration, a lack of empathy).

I don’t know about you, but I have been oppressed by this evil spirit. Wickedness is an evil spirit. It comes from satan. Do you recognize any of these behaviors? Did you know? You don’t have to be oppressed by them? You do have a choice. That’s what I love about God….He lets us have free will.

The answer: pray for God to show you healing. And, get away from these types of people! If you can’t get away from them, being around these types of people will require prayers of healing. Scripture also says in Proverbs 4:14 “Don’t do as the wicked do, and don’t follow the path of evildoers. Don’t even think about it; don’t go that way.”

The book of Proverbs is an amazing book of wisdom. Not the world’s wisdom….God’s wisdom. It’s higher than the world’s ways. It will deliver you from anything bad that you have always known, into something so revolutionary freeing, you’ll know it’s God because you can’t explain how wise it is when you hear it. He will give you wisdom that is loaded with so much truth behind it, no one can argue it. No one!
